Argo is a classic 28ft Gaff cutter with counter stern. She was designed by Harrison Butler and built in 1914. She came to the workshop, initially for some replacement frames, a new deck and to restore her from a Bermudan to her original gaff rig.
However it was soon apparent that a major rebuild was necessary, as there were structural problems in the stem and stern. New pieces were cut from large slabs of oak, selected from trees with appropriate curves.
With the structural work done she was re-planked, decked and given a simple straight forward interior. Her owner, Martin Braint is now enjoying sailing her on the south coast.
